passe

3 years ago, i would have told you that my polytechnic education was just a "tunnel" or a "passageway" i had to pass through in order to get to university and i did not plan to create any memories while doing so. now, 3 years later, i will tell you that i thoroughly enjoyed the experience and have beautiful memories to last me for a lifetime. it was a decision made by my parents, which i reluctantly followed at first, but now i am glad i did.

since young, i always had the notion that all scgs girls will go to junior college. it seemed like the natural path or route of education to take. so when my parents suggested going to polytechnic instead, it just ruined my "plan". i was dead set on going to my dream junior college (ha ha.) and i told myself that if my grades didn't permit me to do so, then i will follow my parents' wishes. it turns out that God was the one who knew what was best for me and what His plan was. my grades weren't good enough and i was too disappointed to consider what course to take. i didn't even want to be there in the first place. i can still remember that i did not bother checking my posting results on the website; i just waited for the letter to come. and so, i was posted to law and management in temasek polytechnic. all the way in tampines. i told myself, it was the beginning of a nightmare. having to wake up 2 hours earlier was definitely something i was not looking forward to. the day before school started, i managed to convince myself that these 3 years were going to be the most boring 3 years of my life.

but it all changed in day one. thanks to clarissa, my first friend. i know this sounds so primary school but it really felt like it! and to think clarissa was actually my friend from primary school! :) it was like a reunion of sorts. i remember telling myself, okay it's going to be just you and clarissa, you will survive. i always smile whenever i think about this silly thought and all the valuable friendships i have forged. for one, being in a class with boys was a totally new experience for me, at the age of 16! and people who said that polytechnic education was going to be a breeze...what were you thinking? having mr. ferlin as my careperson and tutor in year one made me more conscious and aware of who i was and who i wanted to be. for the first time in my life, i wanted to challenge myself and see what i was capable of. i will never forget what mr. ferlin said to me after i got back my first test grade. that really motivated and pushed me to aim higher and today, i can proudly say that i have achieved it and that, with God's help and strength, i am capable. :) LawInc consumed most of my time in year two but it was definitely worth it. being in LawInc really helped me to open up and allowed me to do what i loved doing. looking back, it amazes me how dedicated and passionate the committee was in executing the activities. it was no easy task but i am actually so proud that we managed to pull them off every single time, with the constant support of teachers and friends who never fail to attend every activity we plan. year three just passed by so quickly that i wished i had more time to enjoy and take in the fact that it was my last year in polytechnic. i still remember fretting over internship places and was so relieved when i got into Rodyk together with aqilah. i couldn't have thought of anyone better to do internship with. :) and of course, Rodyk was the firm i wanted to intern at, so it all worked well. and the UK trip was like the cherry on top of a delicious three-tiered sundae. i survived with amanda as my buddy (haha.) and can safely say that i would love to continue having her as my roomie in the future. :) the last three months of year three was crazy but i'm just thankful that i made it through. i had so many things to deal with and i really thank God for providing and giving me time to stop and breathe.

in many ways, i wish i was given more time to settle down before flying off to the next chapter of my life, but i know everything happens for a reason, just like how i am not present at graduation today. i won't deny that i am sad because i very much want and love to be there. but knowing that my parents are proud of me and that my friends will still be around when i go back, is good enough. :)

a huge thank you to:

my parents (i know you read my blog.) for pushing me onto the polytechnic route and always knowing what's best for me; you two still know and that is why i'm over here in new zealand. i love you very much and can't wait to see you in june.

amanda, sharyl, deb, clarissa and serena for always being there. i think my thank yous will never stop flowing because every day i keep thinking of you guys and how blessed i am. all your emails and snail mails and online chats make me a very happy girl. i'm looking forward to many more years of stalking (amanda), shopping (sharyl), late nights (deb), sharing of tears and joys (clarissa) and camwhoring (serena)!

ryan, wei loong, wine, geri, jeriel and aqilah for being the other group of friends i can turn to when things get rough. i think i haven't thanked you guys enough for being so encouraging, when it comes to both relaxing and studying! you all are special to me and i thank God for putting each one of you in my life. :) likewise, i'm looking forward to creating many more beautiful memories with you all! here's to many more years of awesome friendships!

God for being my tower of refuge and strength, provider and sustainer. You have been there from the very beginning and You knew what was going to take place in those 3 years. no amount of thanks can ever match up to all the blessings You have given me. all that i have achieved and accomplished is because of Your grace and love for me. thank You.

congratulations to all law and management graduates of AY2007/2008; we did it. :)
